Antenatal/Childbirth Education

You are best to start your Antenatal Classes when you are approx 28-32 weeks' pregnant (depending on course timing). Please choose the class starting closest to this.

These programme's are fully funded, therefore FREE, and are located at 22a Taylor Street, Cambridge.

Class Schedule

  • Weekend 9th & 10th October, 9am to 3.30pm
  • Weekend 16th & 17th October, 9am to 3.30pm
  • Wednesdays 10th Nov to 15th Dec, 6.45pm to 9pm

Parents Centre + St. John's Child First Aid Course

This half-day course is ideal for people who are looking after children in their own home or for those needing to renew their Child First Aid certificate.

  • Recommended for parents, grandparents and other family caregivers
  • Recognised qualification for home-based educators and nannies
  • 4.5 hour course,
  • Eligible for NZQA unit standard 25459

This course is FREE and will be run on a Saturday 8.45am to 1.30pm



Baby & You

Our Baby and You programme follows on from antenatal classes and offer sound tips and strategies as you begin your journey into parenthood.  To see your baby smile, play and grow can be an extraordinary experience.  You will have feelings of tenderness and closeness and a sense of awe at the miracles of the ‘first milestones. But with a new baby come uncertainties.  Your tiny bundle may rule the entire household through their routines, sleep patterns and behaviours.  This can be very challenging for a new parent.

This is a 4 week course held on Thursdays at 10am to 12pm.

Topics covered include:

  • Caring for a new-born including feeding, sleeping and settling and baby massage
  • The realities of the postnatal period
  • Identifying physical, emotional and relationship changes
  • Development and play including stimulation for baby, age appropriate toys and key milestones of baby’s growth and development

Moving & Munching

Our Moving and Munching course is tailored to caregivers of 4 month – 12 month babies.

This is a 2 week course held on Thursdays at 10am to 12pm. Interactive and supportive the sessions cover a range of topics including your baby’s physical and mental milestones, bonding and learning through play, starting solids, nutritional requirements, and transitioning to activities and childcare outside the home.

Parents of younger babies are most welcome to attend, as are your little ones!

The Moving session explores your baby’s development and key milestones over their first year; how babies learn through play and exploration; how to create a safe and stimulating learning environment at home; how to support baby to transition to activities and/or childcare outside of home.

The Munching session provides an informative introduction to solids based on the latest evidence-based research, and covers textures, nutritional requirements, allergies and intolerances, and stages of development.
